How to Clean Interior Windows and Mirrors With Fewer Streaks

Streaks often come from a dirty cloth, too much product or residue being moved across the glass. Plan the job around the actual glass and frame, then work in a manageable section. Check for films, tint, decorative coatings or unusual materials before choosing a glass-cleaning product.

Prepare the frame and surroundings

Remove loose dust from reachable frames and sills first. Protect nearby wood, electronics and fabrics from drips. Window tracks and screen work are separate tasks unless they are specifically agreed. A window that sticks or a damaged seal needs its own assessment; cleaning should not force an opening mechanism.

Use controlled moisture

Follow the product label and the glazing or mirror maker’s directions. A clean microfiber or suitable glass cloth helps reduce redistributed residue. Do not assume an ammonia-based formula is safe for every tinted film or coated surface. Apply carefully around mirror edges so liquid does not accumulate behind the backing.

Repeated wiping can hide the cause
